The United States remains the most consequential actor in global politics. Its choices on trade, security and technology reach well beyond its borders. For India, few countries matter as much as the United States. It is India's largest export market and its second largest trading partner in goods. It hosts the largest overseas Indian community. It is also the biggest source of remittances to India. Decisions taken in Washington on trade, foreign policy, immigration and security therefore shape outcomes in India.
These decisions are increasingly driven by American domestic politics, with a polarised electorate, a closely divided Congress and an assertive executive. Our research analyses this landscape across US domestic politics, the US Congress, US foreign and security policy and India-US relations, to identify opportunities and risks from an Indian perspective.
We track legislation, elections, trade negotiations and executive action as they unfold. Our work explains what these developments mean for India and outlines practical options for Indian decision makers and stakeholders.
