Pavan Srinath Featured in Prajavani

Pavan Srinath, Fellow at Takshashila, authored a special feature with Prajavani on 2 February 2017.

The article addresses the disillusionment amongst people and states that the expectations out of this budget were unrealistic. Pavan further states that no budget could fully counter the challenges set forth by demonetisation.

The budget had subtler but important changes like the dropping of Soviet-era plan and non-plan differences in expenditure. The merging of the railways budget into the general is a significant change and starts the path towards accrual accounting, something that must quickly be followed by defence and other budgets too.

He further highlights that while the changes and reforms may be appear incremental in nature, it is important to consider its long-term effects.
