Panel Discussion: Working in Public Policy

The Takshashila Institution, in association with Mount Carmel College, conducted a panel discussion on Working in Public Policy on 13 February 2017 at the Mount Carmel Auditorium, Bengaluru.

The panel discussion was organised to introduce undergraduate students to the field of public policy. Pavan Srinath, research fellow at Takshashila moderated the discussion. The experts discussed in detail the joys, challenges and experiences of working in public affairs. The illustruous panel comprised of:

  • Latha Murthy: Former Corporator, Bengaluru City
  • Meera K: Citizen Matters, Oorvani Media
  • Ranjana Menon: Public Policy and Government Relations at Uber
  • Gayathri Menon: IRS Officer, Customs & Excise
  • V Ravichandar: City Connect, Bengaluru City

"Even the Big 4 consulting firms like McKinsey work on areas of public policy. Sky is the limit. It's finally about the choices and the government needs to be facilitated to make those choices. If you want to impact change on scale, then public policy is for you", said Ravichandar.

The participants drew on their own experiences in working in public affairs and spoke extensively on the current transition in the public policy sphere. They also spoke about the various aspects of public policy and the expertise required to tackle every miniscule detail.

"Takshashila's commitment to its students is outstanding. This public policy programme taught us to have a vision plan for development", said Latha Murthy.

Takshashila is a proud educational partner of the Mount Carmel Institution and has been successfully running the Master of Arts in Public Policy (MAPP) course in association with Mount Carmel College. Applications are now open for the next batch commencing in June 2017.
