Advanced Training Programme with Officers from the Indian Economic Service

We recently hosted an Advanced Training Programme for mid-career officers of the Indian Economic Service (IES), designed to enhance strategic economic thinking.

The programme featured a series of interactive lectures, discussions, and simulation exercises led by Takshashila faculty and guest experts. Participants engaged with pressing themes such as economic reasoning in a changing world and an introduction to complexity, while also exploring the 8-fold path to policy analysis and practising the critical analysis of a policy document.

The sessions explored the challenges of economic policymaking in the information age and emphasised the importance of effective policy communication, including a simulation exercise. Officers also examined the Samaj-Sarkaar-Bazaar framework, reflected on the role of the government in Viksit Bharat, and deepened their understanding of economic statecraft in today’s geopolitical landscape.

This intensive programme provided IES officers with both conceptual frameworks and practical tools for applying economic reasoning in real-world policymaking.
