Pavan Srinath Quoted in Buzzfeed

Pavan Srinath has been quoted in an article with Buzzfeed which addresses the recent enforcement by the Maharashtra government against surge pricing by major cab aggregators like Uber and Ola.

While Uber urged its Mumbai users to sign a petition to protest against the new laws enforced by the Maharashtra government, Ola did no such thing. The article highlights that Uber’s global footprint allows it to have additional leeway when influencing policies, while Ola does not. The article also addresses the instance of our own public transportation system being very entrenched.

“I don’t really see a moral or a principled problem with Uber’s approach,” said Pavan Srinath, head of strategy and programs at the influential Bengaluru-based public policy think tank, the Takshashila Institution. “India’s local transport systems like taxis and autorickshaws are very, very entrenched, more so than in any other country, and Uber decided to take them head on. So they’re doing what they have to do to survive.”
