Panel Discussion on Land Acquisition Bill

Takshashila's Pavan Srinath participated in a panel discussion on land acquisition bill currently being legislated in India on Tuesday, July 21st at Mount Carmel College, Bangalore. Organised by the journalism department, the panel also featured Sujit John from Times of India, GV Krishna from the BJP Chartered Accountant's Association, freelance journalist Raksha Kumar and was moderated by Sridhar Pabbisetty of Namma Bengaluru Foundation.Pavan argued for how the larger challenge of property rights and land titles are not being addressed, and nor are land markets being liberalised. In this context, he argued that any version of a land acquisition bill would be counterproductive for both farmers and land owners, as well as industry.
