Gen Prakash Menon is Takshashila's first Director of Strategic Studies

The Takshashila Institution is pleased to welcome Lt Gen (Retd) Prakash Menon as the Director of our new Strategic Studies Programme. He will be a Professorial Fellow and member of the Takshashila Council. He will head multidisciplinary policy research & postgraduate-level education programmes in strategic studies.After retiring from the Indian Army 2011, Gen Menon continued in government as the Military Advisor and Secretary to Government of India, and from 2015 as Officer on Special Duty in the National Security Council Secretariat. Earlier he was commandant of the National Defence College and Major General, General Staff of the Army's Northern Command. He has been decorated with three Distinguished Service awards - PVSM, AVSM and VSM.He has a PhD from Madras University for his thesis “Limited War and Nuclear Deterrence in the Indo-Pak context”. He was appointed by the Union Cabinet as a member of an expert group for the creation of the Indian National Defence University.In addition to leading the strategic studies initiative at Takshashila, Gen Menon will pursue his research interest in the role of force in statecraft.
