The Takshashila PLA Insight: Issue no 21: China’s National Day Military Parade; Next Step in Building India-China Military to Military Relations; Russian Military Exercises; Countering Drone Attacks

The People’s Republic of China’s 70th foundation anniversary is less than two weeks away. But China has already stepped up the intensive rehearsal for its 70th anniversary’s National Day Parade. The focus of the parade this year will be on the weapons that are developed after 2012.  President Xi came to power in late 2012, and since then, he has started reforming the People’s Liberation Army.

China’s indigenously developed stealth fighter jets, J-20, would be the highlight of the parade.  The fighter jets are rehearsing over the western suburbs of Beijing since April 2019. Its warplanes like J-10, J-11, multipurpose attack helicopters and strategic bombers, the H-6N would also be participating in the parade. Beijing is also planning to display its intercontinental ballistic missile-Dong Feng 41 (DF-41) and submarine-launched ballistic missile- JL-2 at the parade.

SCMP reports that China is expected to display two types of supersonic spy drones during the National Day military parade. The unmanned drones are identified as DR-8 or Wuzhen 8, and Sharp Sword stealth attack drone. The DR-8 is expected to play a key role in the South China Sea and Western Pacific.
