China announced that it will hold a grand celebration followed by a military parade and mass pageantry on its National Day, October 1 at Tiananmen Square, Beijing. This is to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). The South China Morning Post reports that China is planning to make its strategic nuclear missiles and advanced fighter jets the centrepiece of its National Day parade. Minnie Chan reports that DF-14 intercontinental ballistic missiles weapon systems and J-2 submarine-launched ballistic missiles have already moved into Beijing for the parade. A squadron of China’s first stealth fighter jets, J-20, is also preparing for the event.
