The Takshashila Institution hosts its first GCPP Convocation

The Takshashila Institution hosted the first Convocation for the students of the Graduate Certificate in Public Policy, on 3rd July 2015 at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The Convocation saw 23 students from different batches of the GCPP course receive completion scrolls and copies of the Constitution.

The Convocation ceremony marked the completion of 10 cohorts of the GCPP course since April 2012. Students, alumni, and members of the broader Takshashila community flew down from across the country to attend it. The presiding dignitaries at the Convocation were Dr Sanjaya Baru, Mr Mohit Satyanand and Mr Nitin Pai.

Dr Sanjaya Baru addressed the students and emphasised on the significance of public policy in the national political discourse. He spoke about the opportunities for students of public policy and on the relevance of the GCPP course in this day and age.

Mr Mohit Satyanand spoke about how the public policy discipline has changed in India and on the need for more enlightened young people in related professions. He emphasized on understanding the technical nuances of public policy while making decisions that affect citizens. He congratulated the graduates and urged them to use their learnings in different professions.

Mr Nitin Pai, Director of Takshashila Institution spoke about the genesis of the GCPP course, its need and relevance in contemporary times and on the evolving public policy space in India. He also spoke about the students of the GCPP and the alumni, emphasising on all that they had gone on to do after completing the course.

At present, the GCPP is completing its 11th cohort with 45 students. Takshashila will host two other such convocations this year, in different cities across the country, to commemorate and celebrate the students who have completed the GCPP course and to also allow for alumni and student interaction with the wider Takshashila community.
