The Takshashila Institution hosted former National Security Adviser of India Shivshankar Menon at the office on 15 January. In a candid conversation over lunch, Mr Menon shared his views on Indian Statecraft in the New World Order.
The former NSA who is an old China hand was of the opinion that India has missed opportunities including being a part of the One Belt One Road initiative which could have had reaped multiple economic benefits. Energy diplomacy, cyber technology and maritime security are other opportunities with great potential, Mr Menon pointed out. On the subject of greater strategic autonomy, he said that India should focus on its national interest and rely on other states only for short-term tactical gains. As the world tends towards multipolarity, the most suited strategy for India is to cultivate its security competencies and map interests and threats before it is too late.
