Pranay Kotasthane was on a panel to discuss the growth of space tech startups in India at the 10th edition of YourStory’s TechSparks on October 12th, 2019.
The panel explored the scope of investments, required policies, and other factors that will help Indian space tech startups grow. Pranay spoke about the need for a new governance framework and policy environment that will enable public and private organisations to explore, harness and exploit space and celestial bodies, consistent with national goals and international obligations.
He argued “the institutional design in the space sector is flawed as the policymaking, regulatory, service, and compliance functions are all rolled into one government agency. Instead, we need to separate the steering functions from the rowing ones. We need an independent regulator that creates a level playing field for private players.”
Other participants on the panel were: Saurabh Bhattacharya, Director, PWC; Vishesh Rajaram, Managing Partner, Speciale Invest; Kshitij Khandelwal, Founder and CTO, Pixxel; and Yashash Karanam, Founder and COO, Bellatrix.
