Total number of pending IPC cases with criminal courts across India

At the end of year 2011, there were 89,39,161 cases for trials in criminal courts across India, including those pending from the previous years. Trials were completed in only 12,11,225 cases last year, a mere 15.4%. Even out of the 12,11, 225 cases, only 4,97,996 resulted in conviction. To sum up, criminal cases pending in courts last year were nearly 90 lakh, out of which around 12 lakh were tried and 5 lakh resulted in conviction.
