“Such assertions of policy neutrality of states in India’s vicinity, where China’s reach had been limited in the past, is only to be expected, said Nitin Pai, co-founder of Indian think tank The Takshashila Institution.
“India’s neighbours will engage more deeply with China as Beijing’s geo-economic and geo-political footprint enlarges. They will resist being in China’s orbit as much as they resist being under Indian hegemony. Sri Lanka is a classic example,” Pai said.”
