New Kannada book out by Takshashila alumnus Vasant Shetty

Takshashila’s GCPP alumnus Vasant Shetty has authored a book titled Karnatakavonde in Kannada, by Banavasi Balaga Prakashana.

Vasant Shetty works in Bangalore in the technology sector, and is a columnist in Udayavani, a leading Kannada daily . He is also an alumnus of the pioneer batch of Takshashila’s Graduate Certificate in Public Policy programme.

About the book: Karnatakavonde is a collection of essays in Kannada. Amidst rising rhetoric about dividing Karnataka into two or more states for administrative convenience, this small book advocates for bigger states in India as a counter balance to an already overcentralised Central government. The book throws a sneak peek on the various Kannada dynasties and also on the near impossible journey of Kannadigas in achieving unification of Karnataka in 1956 and reminds the people of Karnataka on the importance of keeping their political unity intact in the Indian Union. The book has an essay each on Bengaluru and its relationship with Karnataka; Telangana state and the current state of affairs between the two Telugu states; and the role of political representatives in reducing regional imbalance in development. The book argues for more decentralisation of power from Center to states and strongly argues against creation of smaller states without devolving more powers to states.
