Is castrating rapists the answer?

The Indian State’s inability to swiftly convict and sentence the offenders — in all crimes, leave alone crimes against women — lies at the root of the problem. Unless we are looking for delivery of justice by a Khap Panchayat or the Taliban, any sentencing will have to follow due policing and judicial processes. The nature and type of punishment will come into play only after the state has secured conviction in a reasonable time-frame. Asking for castration of rapists doesn’t matter when the criminal justice system can’t sentence them quickly.
