Situated at the mouth of the Red Sea and acting as a gateway to the great markets and holy sites of the Middle East and the Mediterranean, Yemen has been integral to the fortunes of Indians for at least two thousand years. As Yemen reaches the end of a complicated ten-year civil war and Indian officials begin to once again emphasise its importance within India’s recent Look West policy, there is tremendous potential for reviving these close and cordial historical ties, advancing the interests of Indian and Yemeni citizens in the turbulent geopolitics of the 21st century.
The Takshashila Institution and the Embassy of India, Riyadh, are conducting an online event to discuss the future of India-Yemen relations. The interaction will provide an opportunity to discuss how both countries view recent developments both in Yemen and the wider Gulf region. It will also seek to lay out a vision for India-Yemen ties in the coming years. The event will be useful to those interested in foreign affairs and public policy, from the private sector, armed forces, and non-profit organisations.
