A? memorial event for Mr S V Raju is being organised by Takshashila in collaboration with the Bangalore International Centre. The event, to be held on? 7th August from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. will be in the format of a panel discussion titled, “S V Raju and Liberal Politics in India” and will delve into Mr Raju’s writings and the liberal ideas propagated by him. The panel will consist of Mr. Ajit Ranade and Mr. Vivek Raju and the discussion will be moderated by Nitin Pai.

About Late Mr. S V Raju
Mr. S V Raju was the Executive Secretary of the Swatantra Party at its National Headquarters for 14 years between 1959 and 1973. Thereafter, he was a Management Consultant in the field of Personnel Management and Human Relations. He also lectured on these subjects at the SIES Institute of Management Studies in the late seventies. He was Trustee and Hon. Secretary of the Indian Committee for Cultural Freedom (ICCF), a position he held since 1978 and Editor of its monthly journal Freedom First since 1985. He also held other positions like Director, Project for Economic Education, Secretary Trustee, Adult Education Institute, Secretary Trustee, The Rajaji Foundation Committee Member, Society for the Right to Die with Dignity President, Indian Liberal Group (ILG) since its revival in 2000 upto 2007. ILG is now a registered organization and has been renamed Liberals India for Good Governance (LGG). He was on the Board of Directors of LGG.
He had edited, authored and published many books like Democracy and Development, Fundamental Rights and the Citizen, When the Wind Blows ??” India???s Ballot Box Revolution (on the emergency and the elections that followed). His last publication was his good friend, Mr. D. N. Patodia???s biography entitled ???How Businessmen Can Enrich Public Life: D. N. Patodia-Reflections?? published in November 2014 by Project for Economic Education.
About Mr. Ajit Ranade
Mr. Ajit Ranade is an economist and a political analyst based out of Mumbai, India. He is the Chief Economist of the Aditya Birla Group, an Indian multinational conglomerate. He has served as Chief Economist at ABN AMRO Bank and also served on various committees of the Reserve Bank of India, including the Committee on Fuller Capital Account Convertibility and the committee to review FEMA for Individuals. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He writes at FirstPost, Business Standard, IBNLive, The Economist and Times. He is a co-founder and trustee of Association for Democratic Reforms, which is an Indian civil society group vying for transparency in the politics of India.
Mr. Ranade is a PhD in Economics from Brown University. He is a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He had been Professor ICRIER, New Delhi and Assistant Professor at IGIDR, Mumbai.
About Mr. Vivek Raju
Vivek has spent many years in the area of building brands and communication, first in advertising, then in marketing for both for-profit and non-profit organisations. Of his 24 years of work experience, 13 years were spent working with agencies like Lintas, Trikaya Grey and Leo Burnett as well as managing marketing for the Levi???s brand. He then spent 11 years in the area of non-profit work, setting up from scratch and building Parikrma Humanity Foundation into a valuable and known organization that is imparting quality, mainstream education to the marginalized poor. As part of the founding team he contributed to its mission in every way and ensured its long-term sustainability.
Vivek did his schooling in Bombay and then followed it up with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA in Marketing from the Rotman School of Management in Toronto.
About Mr. Nitin Pai
Nitin Pai is the co-founder and the Director of the Takshashila Institution and editor of Pragati ??” The Indian National Interest Review, a well-regarded publication on strategic affairs, public policy and governance. Prior to setting up Takshashila, Nitin spent more than a decade with the Singapore government. His policy research areas are geopolitics, national security and social capital.
