Book Launch: What Does it Mean to be a Liberal in India?

The Takshashila Institution, in collaboration with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF), hosted the Bangalore launch of the new book, What Does it Mean to be a Liberal in India?

This book is a collection of essays on liberty, liberals and liberalism by 19 prize-winning young authors from around India. Liberty touches numerous aspects of life – politics, the economy, society. religion, sexuality and morality.

The book launch was followed by a debate on liberalism where Takshashila fellows and alumni interacted with three of the authors – Karthik Shankar, Harshita Lall and Jash Dholani, who were present for the launch. Ronald Meinardus, Regional Director of the FNF and editor of the book, also took part in the discussion.

“This is an extraordinary book with very remarkable writings of young Indians. It will make the reader aware of the challenges but also the huge opportunities for liberal transformation in the biggest democracy on earth,” said Dr. Meinardus.
